You will also need to cancel any outstanding hospital, dental, podiatry or other health related appointments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agencies providing care such as social services, home carers, meals on wheels and day centres<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Banks \/ National Savings \/ building societies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insurance companies (e.g. life, buildings \/ contents, medical, car, travel)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pension providers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Credit card\/store card providers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any other financial institutions must be informed so that any accounts solely in the deceased\u2019s name can be frozen to prevent fraud<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You should also inform companies \/organisations with joint accounts, although these should normally still be accessible by the other joint holder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mortgage provider or if the deceased lived in rented accommodation, inform the local authority, housing association or private landlord<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buildings and property insurance companies to ensure continued cover especially if the property is left unoccupied<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Utility companies (electricity, gas, water and telephone) and arrange transfer of account details if necessary<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>TV\/internet companies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pensions Service or Jobcentre Plus to cancel any benefits to the deceased or their carer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inland Revenue to deal with tax and Child Benefit payments (if applicable)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local government offices that provide services such as the Electoral Register, housing benefit, council tax office, bus pass, disabled parking permits, library membership<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The DVLA and the insurance company if the deceased owned a car or held a driving licence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Passport Agency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arrange redirection of post if necessary and reduce the burden of any unwanted mail by registering with the Bereavement Register<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clubs \/ membership organisations\/social groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In the weeks and months following the death:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Decide how to go about the probate process and whether to use a professional or undertake the administration yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there is no will, decide who will sort out the deceased\u2019s estate and contact the Probate Registry to apply for a Grant of Administration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Find out if probate is needed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gather any documents relating to financial affairs and property ownership<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px;font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Soon after the death: Shortly after the death: In the days following the death: In the weeks and months following the death: Decide how to go about the probate process and whether to use a professional or undertake the administration yourself.
